A pair of Lizalfos lunged at Umbelozar with their swords. Night Fang tackled one of them while Skylark threw a dagger at the other. Sky then unsheathed her sword and brandished it at anyone who dared to attack her. Without the sword, Umbelozar had to really be on his defenses as well as put his fists up. Night Fang clawed at his enemies and bludgeoned them to death with his powerful knuckles. He felt someone slash at his tail. He winced in pain, but kept his composure. He leaned out of the way of the next slash, then charged forward with a kick in the gut. The Lizalfos clutched his belly and leaned forward. When that happened, Night Fang reached forward and broke his enemy's neck. Umbelozar wasn't able to retrieve his sword yet as he was surrounded by numerous rival Lizalfos. Using his shield, he spun around in a series of twirls as he would block with the shield, then hit with his fist. Sometimes, he would use the shield as a blunt instrument to whack an enemy across the face or the back of the head. Oddly enough, he seemed to be half-fighting and half-dancing throughout the fight. He was certainly a showoff here. He even clawed through a Lizalfos's bellybutton, keeping in his personal fashion. Another Lizalfos swung his tail at him. It had a spike ball on the end. Umbra dove out of the way. Another Lizalfos had an axe head fastened to his tail, which Umbra had to quickly roll over to avoid getting beheaded. That Lizalfos took another swing at him, only Sky swung her sword at the same time, slicing off the Lizalfos's tail. She then stabbed the Lizalfos through the stomach. She then managed to slice another Lizalfos in half. She used her sword to her defensive abilities against the enemies swords and gauntlets. Night Fang sunk his fangs into the throat of a Lizalfos who was wearing a gauntlet. Just then, another one wearing a gauntlet hit Night Fang in the ribs. He groaned and clutched his side, gritting his teeth. Using his tail, he tripped the Lizalfos that more than likely fractured a rib or two. Then stuck his long, pointy toenails into his neck. After five minutes of fighting, Skylark began to feel sick due to the smell of blood in the air, and a rival Lizalfos wearing a gilded triceratops skull mask took that chance to slash at her with his sword. He missed. Then he tried to claw her with his free hand. While he failed to scar her skin, his claws did manage to tear a huge hole in her tunic causing it to rip and reveal part of her stomach. The Lizalfos looked at what he saw and grinned gleefully.
"Whoa, take a look at this, boys! The clawless one has a good looking body! Wonder what that chest of hers is like?" he laughed, eyeing Sky up and down, undressing her with his eyes.
Skylark looked at the patch of fabric that had been torn off and was shocked. She had worn this tunic for years, given to her by the Hylian knight Faros who had adopted her and raised her as his own. Seeing it ripped accidentally was one thing, but since the one who ripped it mocked her (and possibly had much dirtier thoughts on his mind), Sky's nausea brought on by the foul stench of blood and the sight of gore was suddenly eradicated. Just before she was about to go berserk on him, Night Fang had already beaten her to it. He pounded his fists against the Lizalfos's face with all his might, cracking his skull with his brute force. Three Lizalfos leaped onto Night Fang, two of which were yanked of by Umbra and Skye. The one that still remained on Night was a gauntlet-wearer and wrapped the arm that wore it around his neck. Night Fang grabbed his forearm and tried to pull his strangler off, but then had to confront another Lizalfos wearing a ram's skull, wielding a sword.
"Watch it!" shouted the Lizalfos that had Night Fang in the headlock. "You might impale me with that thing!"
"Sorry!" shouted the other Lizalfos.
Night stumbled backwards for a few moments with the one Lizalfos on his back. As he did, he, of course, leaned back, thrusting out his exposed stomach. The other Lizalfos's ram skull had horns on it, which he put to good use. Leaning forward, he charged at Night Fang's belly and rammed him full force in the gut. Luckily, the horns were very curved which made impalement much more difficult. However, the blunt force of impact was enough to knock a lot of the wind out of Night's system. He let out a loud "Oof!" and fell backwards onto the ground. Luckily, the Lizalfos on his back broke the fall for him.
"Ow!" he shouted.
He briefly loosened his hold on Night, allowing him to get back some oxygen, but that blow to the gut really knocked Night silly. Suddenly, the enemy's headlock slackened. Night Fang saw a long blade right next to his head which had gone through the strangler's skull, courtesy of Skylark.
"Thanks."
"Don't mention it."
Just then, the Lizalfos that had rammed Night rammed Sky before she could remove her sword from the slain Lizalfos. She, too, was knocked backwards, but since no one was on her, she immediately got back up. The ramming Lizalfos took out his sword and brandished it at Skylark. Without her sword, Sky was forced to improvise. Luckily, her adoptive-father had also trained her in hand-to-hand combat. With fancy footwork, she tripped the Lizalfos with her ankles. When he tried to get up, she swung her foot at him. He snarled at her and slashed at her. She caught his wrist and gave it a hard, wrenching twist. The Lizalfos dropped his sword due to the injury. Sky grabbed hold of it, and killed him.
"Sky!"
Sky turned to see Night Fang holding her sword. She then saw another Lizalfos behind him and pointed. He turned around and took a mighty swing, despite his extreme lack of swordsman skills. He sliced the Lizalfos cleanly in half, but upon contact, the Lizalfos did manage to unleash an uppercut to Night's jaw with his gauntlet. He was knocked to the ground and wouldn't move. He had been knocked out.
"Night!"
Sky hurried over to him amidst all the chaos to inspect her dearest friend. She could see two bruises forming on his stomach where the one Lizalfos from earlier had rammed him. His lip was bleeding. She looked around for anymore enemies coming at her. Grabbing some stones, she embraced herself for anyone who dared to charge at her. Luckily, the Lizalfos were not quite smart enough to abandon their tag-in/tag-out strategy in favor of attacking all at once. A few of them did, but not enough to put up the greater challenge that the lot of them should be posing. When Sky threw a stone at one enemy's head, she was quickly prepared with another. Unfortunately, she soon ran out. She retrieved her sword and fought off two more Lizalfos. But trying to fight them off and protect the unconscious Night Fang was becoming a grueling chore. She was also trying to look around for Umbelozar and Tamilda as she had lost sight of them.
She kicked another Lizalfos to the ground, then another (rather large) Lizalfos swung his tail at her, which had the head of an axe fastened to it. She used her sword as defense against it. It protected her from suffering a nasty wound, but this Lizalfos had swung his axe-fitted tail which such force, she was knocked clean off her feet. Her sword was flung from her grasp and this time struck, blade-end first, a tree trunk, and sunk into it by nearly a foot and a half, quivering. This time, Sky landed on hard gravel more than dirt of grass. She let out a loud groan and clutched the back of her rips. Her shoulder blade had likely been cracked. She felt as if a kidney had been ruptured upon the landing. She struggled to get up as her body was aching, but the Lizalfos stomped his foot onto her exposed torso. If Skylark had pointy claws, she could easily claw his foot to get him off, but alas, she did not. The enemy pressed his foot down hard on her, preventing her belly and ribcage from expanding from inhalation, thus cutting off her ability to breathe. The Lizalfos sneered and hoisted his sword above her, pointing downward toward her throat. Impending death seemed eminent.
All of a sudden, a gift from above! Umbelozar leaped down from a tree branch onto the Lizalfos. They fell to the ground, Umbra landing on the Lizalfos, of course. Sky gasped for air as she could feel a tremendous cloud of relief hover over her. It was short-lived, but wondrous. Looking at Umbra's condition since they got separated, she could see a claw has been broken off on his pinky finger, an eye was swollen and bruised, the side of his head was a bit bloodied, and he had a few scrapes near his buttocks. Other than that, he seemed to be fine for the most part.
As he struggled to keep the rival Lizalfos down, he struck him in the back of the head with his shield until he lost consciousness. He stood up to see how Skylark was doing when suddenly, he let out sharp yell of agony. Skylark's little dagger that she had thrown during the start of the brawl was sticking out of his hip. He turned around to see a Lizalfos who had regained consciousness after Skylark had thrown a rock at his head, now with a bloodied lump protruding from his temple. It was lucky that wild Lizalfos aren't the best of throwers because if they were, Umbra would have likely been hit near his spine, but the enemy was lucky, too, considering that he still managed to hit Umbra with it, blade first. Umbra picked up the unconscious Lizalfos's sword and tried to fight his backstabber. He avoided his gauntlet twice, waiting for a good opportunity.
Sky had managed to get to her feet and tried to look for her sword, but quickly changed her mind knowing that Umbra had to fight with a knife stuck in him.
"Hey! That's not really a fair fight, is it?" she called to the rival Lizalfos.
The Lizalfos ignored her and kept fighting Umbra. Just then, another Lizalfos swinging a sword entered the fray. This one had an unusually large outie bellybutton. More concern than ever seeing him fight two enemies while wounded, Sky grew much more anxious.
"Umbra! Back off!" she shouted, running to his aid.
"Sky! What are you doing?!"
"Returning the favor!"
She inhale aggressively, then violently exhaled. A sudden burst of fire emerged briefly from her mouth.
"You didn't tell me your kind could spit fire!" Umbra shouted as he limped away from the flames.
"I'm not exactly use to it," she said.
"Ohhhh… Boo-hoo…" mocked the enemy Lizalfos with the gauntlet. "Let me show you how its done!"
With that, he took a big inhale, then blew a roaring rush of flames toward Sky. Umbra did what she requested of him and let her deal with this Lizalfos. He turned his attention now to the other Lizalfos while still enduring the pressure of the knife in his flesh. After a few lunges, Umbelozar dove to the side and took a swipe at his enemy, deliberately slicing off the Lizalfos's bellybutton. The Lizalfos let out a yelp of pain as his belly bled. Then Umbra grabbed hold of his enemy's wrist that held the sword and plunged the blade into where his foe's navel had once stood. Unfortunately, when he pulled out the blade and took a few steps back, Umbra bumped the knife stuck in his hip against a bush, causing a searing pain to jolt through him. In this brief moment, he danced around with his eyes shut tight gritting his teeth.
"AAGH!"
Unfortunately, during that time, he had lowered his evasiveness for a second too long. The now, bellybutton-less impaled Lizalfos, in a last ditch effort of strength took a final slash at Umbelozar. He stumbled and nearly fell down in his attempt, but he didn't miss. The end of his sword carved a deep gash along Umbra's left ribs. Blood spurted from the opened wound. Umbra fell onto one knee in agony. The wounded rival Lizalfos was about to make his final attempt to finish off Umbelozar, until…
"You son of a—"
Night Fang had finally come to. He had actually retrieved Umbra's sword and had now planted it into the enemy's spine.
"Thank you…" said Umbra, meekly.
"Where's Sky?" Night asked.
"Follow the smoke," answered Umbra.
Night Fang nodded and gave Umbra back his sword.
"Wait…" Umbra called to him.
"What?"
Umbra held out the sword he had taken from the larger Lizalfos that he had saved Sky from.
"The guy that owned this sword has a lot of tail power, too," he added.
Night took the sword from Umbra and ran off to find Sky. He followed the heat and sound of fire crackling. He clapped his hand over his mouth and nose to keep from inhaling smoke fumes. He could hear the sound of someone struggling nearby.
"Sky!" he called out. "Sky?"
"Night?!" a female voice called back.
"Where are you?"
"Where am I? Where are you?! I'm trying to defend myself here!"
"Hold on, Sky! I'm coming!"
Night followed the sound of her voice to where he thought she was. Suddenly, he spotted remnants of his best friend. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a stroke of bad luck. Her sword swung out of nowhere, barely giving Night enough time to counter it with the sword he was holding.
"I believe that sword you're holding belongs to me…"
The bulky Lizalfos that had almost killed Sky had also regained consciousness, found her sword and was now using it against her closest friend. He stared at Night Fang with the most unsettling smirk. Night, in contrast, bared his fangs aggressively at him. They circled around each other, waiting for one of them to make the first move. Night Fang jumped in front of him, then quickly jumped back to avoid his opponent's swipe. Being a Dinolfos, he was even more agile than a Lizalfos. He repeated this strategy several times until finally, he jumped up and over the Lizalfos head and came down with the blade right on his tail. The enemy roared and quickly spun all the way around to see Night Fang jump back again, holding his sword and the amputated end of his tail with the axe at the end. Night Fang jumped in front of him again. When the Lizalfos took another swing, Night Fang countered the blow with the sword, only to have it knocked from his grasp. The Lizalfos grinned gleefully and immediately went for it, much to Night Fang's sneaky delight. When the Lizalfos picked up his sword and started to face Night Fang again with both swords in hand, Night hurled the axe-headed tail end with all his might. It struck the Lizalfos straight in the face between his eyes. He grunted once and dropped the swords. Then he stumbled for a moment clutching his head, before collapsing to the ground, dead. Night Fang gave a smug "Hmph!" beaming. He collected both swords and was about to leave until another though crossed his mind. He turned around to look at the axe head that he threw into the defeated Lizalfos.
"Hmmm… That could possibly come in handy next time I'm in battle…" he thought.
He grabbed the head of the axe, and with a mighty tug, pulled it out. One end of it was covered with blood. With the weapons in hand, he went searching for Skylark again. He found her on her knees panting hard. In front of her was a dead rival Lizalfos. She had already beaten him.
"Wow," he exclaimed.
"You're finally awake!" Sky said happily. "I was so worried when I got knocked away from your unconscious body. I thought for sure someone might take advantage of that and kill you."
"Knocked away?"
"Yeah. A big guy hit me with his tail while I was guarding you, and it knocked me back."
"Hm. That makes sense seeing as how that was likely the guy that stole your sword."
He handed her back her weapon.
"How? Umbra knocked him out," she said, sheathing it.
"And that would explain the lump I saw on his head—Umbra!"
Night Fang suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. What if another rival found Umbelozar in the current state he was in while Night was gone?
"Where is he?" asked Sky.
Night Fang made a "come here" gesture and took off running back to where he left him. Skylark followed. When they got to where Night last saw him he was nowhere to be found. For a moment, Night's stomach sank in fear. Then they heard a voice nearby.
"Hey…"
It was Umbra. He limped out from a hollow tree trunk where he had taken refuge. The knife was still lodged in his body. When Sky saw the new slash to his left ribs, she gasped.
"Oh my God! Are you all right?"
"Ugh… I don't know…" he answered, before looking at Night. "Why are you holding an axe head?"
"Oh, I took it off of a rival. I think it might make a useful weapon for me. In fact…"
He suddenly took off. Less than a minute later he came back carrying the spiked ball that was on the tail of the Lizalfos Sky had just previously killed.
"Interesting," Umbra said taking it from Night.
"You're welcome," Night said, as if Umbra had thanked him.
"Where's my sister?"
Sky and Night looked at each other, then uneasily back to Umbra. He grew increasingly frantic. Tammy was not a fighter like they were. Was she hiding? Was she kidnapped? Or possibly… deceased? The thought worried them tremendously. If they didn't find her soon, they may never see her alive or even dead ever, ever again.
